For the past few months, I have been lucky enough to be able to perform in a show called Soiree DADA: Schmuckt Der Hallen, here in Chicago. It has been one of the few highlights of my year.
As i will usually do with something I spend a lot of time immersed in, I drew pictures of everybody in the show. I'll be adding more as I go. I'm including them here along with comparison photos. And a sketch I ended up not using.
Here's the whole cast:

the Creepy Spiders of Dooooom!
hey, sorry for the non-posting. Here's a logo recently designed. My old band is getting back together to play a show, and we couldn't decide on a name, so i jokingly suggested this one, and it stuck.
If you're in Chicago on the 26th of December, come to the Double Door!

I couldn't upload the image here in time for IF's deadline, so that one is on Flickr, but this is just so it's also on my blog.

IF- Clique
Here's this week's Illustration Friday topic, Clique.
In this picture, we have Zoe, Carissa, Natanya, Heather Herman, and Helloise Herman, who is showing appropriate class in fending off her table of girls from the onslaught of Jesse and his beloved frog of the week, Hoppy.
On Carissa's shirt you can see a Pollywog, the star of an awesome video about Pollywogs, from Barenaked Ladies of Canada. That.. i made.

IF- Island
"HI"
"uh... hi."
"Hawaii?"
"I'm... fine. can I... help you?"
In plenty of time this week, here is "Island" for Illustration Friday.
I'd say my obsession with Magnum P.I. is fairly healthy. I mostly love it so much because it reminds me of my childhood, and now, of sitting drawing watching endless episodes with my family.
So here we have Jesse the Majordomo, Billy Lampwick as the beefy helicopter pilot, Scooter the dog reflecting as the lads, little Phoebe the manager of the King Kamehameha club, and Bezeus, going without his glasses, as our man in the shorts. Going without his glasses, he's operating about as blind as Magnum usually does anyway.
I've also included the original scan, for comparison.
Pencils and Ink at House of Gerdes, Scan and P-Shop work at Oink.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLY
I met the amazing illustrator Kelly Light while spending time in Barenaked land this spring, and she's inspired me and taught me a lot of things through only a few months of knowing eachother. She drew the guys for a contest they had off of Snacktime, so this is my tribute to her.

HALL SIGN
My mom is a teacher, and asked me to create a sign for the wall outside her classroom door, so everyone would know the names of the teachers of that class. Instead of just having plain shirts on the kids, i opted for original designs, so i could get a little practice in on product design. I sketched the kids out on paper, and then scanned it in and inked and colored it in Photoshop. I also did all the little design stuff like the t-shirts and the lunch box and stuff all in photoshop.
Here is the final product:
and a detail piece, showing the t-shirts and lunchbox.

IF- Detach
Illustraion Friday's theme this week is detach, and with IF, I've decided I'm just going to to go with the first image that instantly hits my brain, so I've come up with this.
Bert and Ernie were the first things I ever drew when i started at something like 3 or so, so they're generally the thing I fall back on. The thing I like best about them is that they span the entire spectrum of colors, so it's a really great balance whenever I draw them.

IF- Sail
Upon the suggestion of my friend Kelly Light, I have decided to throw my stylus into the ring over at illustration Friday.
This week's challenge is:
Sail.\
Normally, I'd try and come up with something absurd, or a variation on the typical meaning of the word, as is my style, but I just couldn't think of anything other than "sail".
So here it is.

Apollo 12
I went to PIF a few weeks ago, where I was witness to some of the best improv I've seen in years. From Phoenix itself and from around the country. TJ and Pete, Jokyr and Jesster, Zumpf, The Remainders, all of it was just solid.
I captured one group in a sketch. They spent their whole show trying to kill one of the people on stage, and it was all really clear how much they loved and respected eachother. Here is Apollo 12:
Greg Jarvis, Travis Barnum, Mack Duncan, Jon Jahrmarkt, Bill Binder. With Stacey Gordon riding the anvil.
